Thank you for contacting Mayor Gonzales to help us stop a City Council resolution that sets a bad precedent for the state. It makes no sense to direct judges to give people the maximum sentence for every offense regardless of the circumstances. State law gives judges wide discretion because there isn’t a single formula that will make the public safer in every instance.
